CG NAQS Hosts British Standards Institute on Strengthening Nigeria’s Quality Infrastructure

Earlier today, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), Dr. Vincent Isegbe, welcomed a delegation from the British Standards Institute (BSI), currently in Nigeria as part of the Standards Partnership Programme—an initiative of the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), delivered by BSI.

Leading the delegation, Mr. Mike Peet outlined the purpose of the visit: to seek NAQS’s collaboration in building a robust national quality infrastructure. The team aims to support Nigeria’s efforts to improve standardisation in alignment with international best practices, while empowering private sector enterprises to expand trade, access new markets, and boost the competitiveness of Nigerian products globally.

CG NAQS expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed NAQS’s commitment to quality development. He noted the Service’s longstanding collaboration with the Nigeria National Accreditation System (NiNAS) in advancing quality standards across sectors.

Also present was Mr. Bola Fashina, Chief of Staff at the National Quality Council (NQC), who commended NAQS’s active engagement in the programme. He assured stakeholders that, despite existing gaps, Nigeria remains firmly on course and is ahead of many countries in implementing the Nigeria National Quality Policy.
