COMPTROLLER GENERAL, NAQS HOST NVMA-FCT ON A COURTESY VISIT

On April 17, 2026, the Executive Committee of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), FCT Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), Dr. Vincent Isegbe PhD, at the NAQS Headquarters, Abuja.

The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen institutional ties and explore strategic collaboration, particularly in preparation for the 2026 World Veterinary Day (WVD). Discussions highlighted NAQS’s critical role in safeguarding Nigeria’s agricultural systems and the need for veterinarians to take a more active role in policy, surveillance, and food safety.

The NVMA FCT presented key planned activities for WVD 2026, including an antimicrobial resistance (AMR) pilot study, public awareness campaigns, and a stakeholder engagement event.

The CG NAQS commended the initiative and expressed NAQS’s willingness to support, while requesting submission of detailed concept notes and budget for further review. He also affirmed openness to long-term collaboration, especially in AMR surveillance and control.

This engagement marks a significant step toward strengthening partnerships aimed at enhancing animal health, food safety, and national biosecurity.
