The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), Dr. Vincent Isegbe, yesterday received a high level delegation from TradeMark Africa (TMA) on a courtesy visit at the Service Headquarters, Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration on trade facilitation, border management, and regional integration.
The delegation was led by Mr. Benedict Musengele, Director of Trade and Customs, TradeMark Africa, and included Mr. Abu-Ali Ndah, Deputy Director (WTO), Trade Department, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), alongside other officials.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Isegbe commended TradeMark Africa for its commitment to improving trade across the continent through modern border systems, regulatory reforms, and capacity development. He noted that the visit aligns with the Federal Government’s drive to facilitate legitimate trade while strengthening biosecurity and protecting Nigeria’s agricultural economy.
The Comptroller General emphasized that NAQS remains committed to building strategic partnerships that enhance efficient border management, digital trade processes, and institutional capacity. He expressed the Service’s readiness to work closely with TradeMark Africa in developing structured programmes that will improve trade facilitation while ensuring compliance with international sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
The discussions explored potential areas of collaboration, including technical assistance, institutional capacity building, regulatory modernization, and initiatives aimed at promoting seamless cross-border trade and regional economic integration.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained engagement towards achieving a more efficient, secure, and internationally competitive trade environment for Nigeria.
