In a renewed demonstration of his commitment to capacity building and continuous professional development, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) has instituted regular in-house training sessions for staff across the agency.
As part of this initiative, officers at the NAQS Headquarters recently participated in an enlightening session on the World Trade Organization (WTO) Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement and its provisions. The session was delivered by SQ Rose Mary Uche and coordinated by the Director of Animal Quarantine, ACGQ Dr. Emeka Asiegbu.
In his remarks, the Comptroller General underscored the importance of staying abreast of evolving global trade protocols, particularly those of the WTO, which are subject to frequent updates. He urged officers to cultivate a habit of continuous learning, emphasizing that professional relevance and meaningful contributions to the agency’s mandate are anchored in knowledge and competence. “The relevance of NAQS in the global trade ecosystem is directly tied to the expertise of its workforce,” he stated.
Dr. Asiegbu commended the Comptroller General for the forward-thinking initiative and assured staff that more training sessions would be organized in the near future. He encouraged younger officers to be inquisitive and proactive in their pursuit of knowledge, noting that consistent learning is the foundation of professional growth and reliability.
