NAQS STRENGTHENS INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION WITH LATVIAN NNPO DELEGATION

The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) today received a 3-member delegation from Latvia, led by the country’s National Plant Protection Officer (NPPO), on a courtesy visit to the Comptroller General.

The visit provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, as both parties shared insights and compared strategies on the prevention, control, and containment of plant pests and diseases.

The delegation is part of a broader team of European Union experts engaged in the recently launched EU Twinning Project aimed at supporting Nigeria’s agricultural development through technical cooperation and capacity building.

During the meeting, the Comptroller General highlighted the Agency’s significant strides in facilitating safe agricultural trade, particularly through the structured Export Certification Value Chain for key commodities.

Recognizing NAQS’s critical role in food safety and agricultural biosecurity, the delegation expressed commitment to including the Agency among key stakeholders in the implementation of the Twinning Project. In response, the Comptroller General assured the team of NAQS’s readiness to identify priority areas requiring technical support.

The visit concluded with an exchange of gifts, symbolizing strengthened collaboration and mutual commitment to advancing agricultural health and trade.
