NAQS- SWZ, NPF- MARITIME COMMAND EXPLORE JOINT ACTION AGAINST AGRO SMUGGLING, PEST AND DISEASE CONTROL

Lagos, Nigeria – October 8, 2025 – The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, South West Zonal Command hosted the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Maritime Command at the Zonal Office in Ikeja, Lagos. The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, and NAQS in safeguarding the nation’s agricultural sector.

During the engagement, discussions centered on enhancing security measures to prevent the spread of agricultural pests and diseases, as well as tackling smuggling and illegal trade in agricultural products.

The Zonal Commander, ACGQ. Dr. Ivbade I. Joy, briefed the AIG on the mandate of NAQS, highlighting its critical roles in plant and animal health protection, export certification, and the prevention of agro-terrorism. Both parties also explored partnership opportunities, including specialized training and capacity-building programs for NAQS personnel.

Speaking during the visit, the AIG Maritime stated: “We look forward to working closely with NAQS to ensure the security of our agricultural sector.” In her remarks, the Zonal Commander, emphasized the significance of the engagement, saying: “This visit marks a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance collaboration and protect Nigeria’s agricultural resources. The Comptroller General has been doing a lot in creating more awareness among rural and urban farmers to activate the full potential of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.”

The visit concluded with a mutual understanding and commitment to foster stronger inter-agency collaboration to safeguard Nigeria’s agricultural resources and promote national food security.
