The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) joined National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) worldwide in commemorating the International Day of Plant Health through a press briefing held earlier today.
During the event, the Comptroller General of NAQS underscored the vital role of plant health in national development, stating: “Plant health is essential for food security, economic progress, and environmental sustainability. Healthy plants form the backbone of our food systems, ensuring nourishment for our growing population.”
He further highlighted the significance of this global observance, adding: “This year’s International Day of Plant Health offers another opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of plant health. We are grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security for fostering an environment that enables the Service to fulfill its mandate effectively.”
In his concluding remarks, the Comptroller General urged stakeholders to collaborate in safeguarding plant health, strengthening food security, and advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
