As part of the Comptroller General’s vision to see that a greater variety of Nigerian Agro produce are exported and accepted in the global market, the NAQS has championed the drive to ensure a seamless export of snails to EU and UK.
This is particularly significant given the burgeoning global demand for snails, which currently outpaces supply due to their extensive health, cosmetic, and economic benefits. The Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) has emerged as a pivotal figure in the international acceptance of snails as an export commodity.
At the forefront of the event, NAQS took center stage at the 12th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Malacological Society in Ijagun, 2024. The event, themed “Snail Production and Utilization for Health and Wealth Creation,” was an ideal venue for NAQS to share insights and expertise through a presentation on the Quarantine Guidelines and Requirements for the Export of Snails to the EU and UK.
During the conference, NAQS underscored the necessity for exporters to comply with EU Commission regulations for snail exports. NAQS remains steadfast in its commitment to assist and guide potential exporters, ensuring they are well-prepared and properly registered on the TRACES platform. Presently, ten Nigerian snail exporters are authorized for export to the EU and UK, with numerous others on the horizon.
Through these efforts, NAQS is not only elevating the standards of the snail export industry in Nigeria but also positioning the country as a leading player in the global market.
